Diabetic Diet Food - Healthy Food Handling Tips

Diabetic Diet Food - Healthy Food Handling Tips

Did you know that making a few changes with the way you choose and prepare your food could contribute to the health of people with diabetes and the rest of the family?

Eating healthy is essential for diabetics to help them control their blood sugar level, maintain their weight, and prevent them from suffering heart disease and other complications. Though termed as diabetic diet food, the meals prepared for people with diabetes are good for the whole family too.

Here are some healthy cooking and food handling tips for diabetics and the rest of your family:

• Trim the fat. When purchasing meat, choose lean cuts of pork, beef, lamb, and veal. Before cooking, remove all visible fat from the meat.

• Make soups one day ahead and store them in the fridge. This will allow you to remove the fat that has formed on the top of the soup once it is chilled.

• Instead of frying, try other ways of cooking meat products like grilling. Rub dry herbs and spices over the meat before grilling them. It gives the meat great flavor, plus there is no oil or fat involved in your cooking.

• If you really want to eat fried foods, use olive oil in food preparation instead of butter, margarine, or other types of oil. Avoid saturated and trans fat as much as possible. Use non-stick pans and cooking spray too.

• Cut down on sodium. Too much salt in your diet can increase your risk of high blood pressure. Limit salt use by training your taste buds to appreciate herbs and spices. Good salt replacement herbs include basil, bay, dill, rosemary, thyme, dill, and mint.

• When handling vegetables, be sure not to overcook them if ever they require cooking. Veggies tend to lose their nutrients when overcooked. When selecting vegetables, pick those that are in season. Wash them using tap water. Peel them thinly since most of the nutrients of vegetables are mainly found just below their skin. Take care to cook the veggies over low fire. This helps preserve the natural flavors of the veggies and makes them easier to digest.

Eating foods that are good for you requires healthy preparation. Try these healthy food handling tips mentioned above and you are on your way to managing your diabetes.

Healthy Diet Foods: Five Simple Steps to Healthy Weight Loss

Healthy Diet Foods: Five Simple Steps to Healthy Weight Loss

Products that claim they can help us lose weight are often exactly the opposite of what we should be looking for in healthy diet foods. If you want to save money, enjoy satisfying and healthy foods, and lose weight all at the same time, there are some very easy ways to do just that, without drinking goopy diet shakes or choking down unsatisfying meal replacement bars. Here are some tips for finding the best healthy diet foods.

Tip #1: Don't Fall For Packaging Gimmicks
Avoiding anything that is obviously packaged and marketed as a diet food is a good place to begin your quest for healthy diet foods. A good rule to follow involves ingredients. If you can't understand what is in a food, it is probably best avoided, since many processed foods are laden with chemicals. Another good reason to avoid these foods is that they don't make contribute to lifelong healthy eating plans. Choosing foods that help you maintain your health rather than simply drop pounds is an important key to successful long term weight loss.

Tip #2: Eat Fresh
Our bodies were designed to take in the energy that fresh, whole, foods naturally contain. By eating fresh, organic foods in a state as close to nature as possible we provide our bodies with good nutrition, especially the important micro-nutrients that are found in fresh foods. Processed diet foods just cannot compete in this arena.

Tip #3: Eliminate Excess Sugars
Many people today suffer from a serious addiction: an addiction to sugar. If you ever find yourself craving carbohydrates or feeling the urge to gobble down an entire box of cookies or bag of candy, then you are probably battling a huge sugar addiction. Healthy diet foods based on good nutrition eliminate all that excess sugar that is causing your weight loss journey to be such a struggle.

Tip #4: Don't Deprive Yourself
Feelings of deprivation are deadly to any diet plan, which is just one reason why diets that emphasize cutting out entire food groups are rarely long-lasting solutions. When you eat balanced, healthy diet foods that you enjoy, feelings of deprivation will never become a problem. If you know for a fact that the eating plan you have chosen to follow is one that is healthy and wholesome, it is easy to turn your back on old ways. This being said, it's okay to have a piece of high quality chocolate every now and then. Choose the darkest chocolate you can find, let it melt in your mouth, and really enjoy it. A wonderful treat on occasion is part of a healthy life plan.

Tip #5: Make Every Bite Count
Eliminating sources of empty calories that are not providing your body with nutrients is a great way to ensure that you are following a regimen that works the way it is supposed to. Healthy diet foods come in the form of vegetables and fruits, dairy products, whole grains, and quality protein sources. Focus on eating for health instead of simply worrying about what the scale says, and you will soon find yourself looking and feeling better than ever.

Healthy Diet Foods Can Be Good For Diabetes

Healthy Diet Foods Can Be Good For Diabetes

Though healthy diet foods serve the best for all in general, it is emphatically true that healthy diets are considered secondary to none in controlling diabetes. Healthy diet foods contain all nutrients required for maintaining health, of course, free from diabetes. Such foods are considered to comprise Vitamins and Minerals that are needed not only to build up a healthy body but even to stabilize normal health. So, the statement 'healthy diet foods can be good for diabetes' stands valid for controlling blood sugar levels.

When a diabetic is able to control blood glucose with dietary foods to certain extent, then what is there left for him to worry about? By taking some medication, the pathological condition of diabetes can be kept under control reasonably as a tentative measure. The managing of diabetes or prevention of further aggravation of diabetic condition can be achieved by changing lifestyle with healthiest diet foods.

In the list of healthy diet foods for diabetes, we have to add grains, fruits, and spices to make it complete in all requirements to the body with diabetes. Also, they should be consumed at a balanced measure with divided servings instead of having them in heavy volume. Heavy eating will result in obesity which is the first and foremost enemy for a diabetic. In this respect, it would be nice if the diabetic consults a doctor and gets a diet meal plan including diabetic healthy foods.

Grains: Unpolished rice, wheat, maize and oats are good for diabetes. In case you consume these diet foods in whole grains and if they are boiled instead of being fried, you can enjoy the maximum benefits of healthy diets.

Fruits: Apples, red grapes, guava, and pomegranates are the best diet foods for diabetes to reduce blood sugar in the bloodstream. If the fruits are eaten with nuts and unpeeled, they serve well the benefits of healthy diets. However, those fruits high in sugar can wisely be excluded.

Spices: Cinnamon and Garlic are really wonderful varieties of spices which can work effectively for diabetics in boosting insulin secretion to control blood sugar levels.

Vegetables: Vegetables containing rich fiber content and low carbohydrate are preferred as healthy diet foods that are serving good for diabetics. The result will be excellent if the vegetables are fresh and eaten in boiled form. Spinach and black beans are good healthy food items for controlling diabetes.

Controlling blood sugar is really an art with a good knowledge of healthy foods. If you want to be an expert and safe, you should know the description of Diabetic Foods to Eat AND Diabetes Foods to Avoid for diabetes.

Diet and Nutrition For Obese Children

Diet and Nutrition For Obese Children

A lot of parents really don't know what to feed their kids when it comes to diet and nutrition for obese children.

However, kids of different ages will have different nutritional needs, and as a parent what you choose to feed them should fit those specific needs. You should also keep in mind that the diet consists of all the foods you feed them. But nutrition will be the way that the food you give them nourishes their bodies, so as caregivers we need to make good nutritional choices in what we prepare for meals.

We should always encourage our kids to eat 5 or more servings of vegetables, plus fruits on a daily basis. In many cases this can become somewhat of a struggle, especially in a world were fast foods such as cheeseburgers, fries, and nuggets can control or even dominate the minds of little ones.

We should constantly promote good eating habits very early in life offering them as toddlers, many different types of healthy foods. You should also allow them to see you eat and enjoy the same foods, especially when it comes to fruits, and veggies. They will soon learn to adopt the same good eating habits, thus leading to much healthier and fit youngsters.

When it comes to diet and nutrition for obese children, there are several different ways to get them to eat their vegetables and fruits. First of all you will need to know exactly what foods your kids like to eat. Some of their favorites maybe muffins, or yogurts, or maybe even smoothies, you can then search the internet or find cookbooks with recipes that allow you to add vegetables, and fruits to their favorites. I'm sure that strawberries added to smoothies or maybe even zucchini or bananas added to muffins will be very appetizing, not to mention healthy.

You should also allow them to go to the store with you, and to pick the fruits they like to eat. Persuade them to eat fruit salads with strawberries, melons, and cantaloupes, fix snacks with mixed nuts, raisins, and cereal, but be cautious you should know first if your little one has allergies to nuts, our goal is to make them healthy, not sick.

Diet and nutrition [http://www.TheChildhoodObesity.info/] should be a fun time when it comes to meals. Remember, your kids are depending on you, it's not up to them to prepare nutritious meals, it's up to you. Children's Nutrition and Children's Health

Children's Nutrition and Children's Health

Looking for some help with Children's nutrition? If you are reading this, you are probably having some issues with your child's eating habits and are concerned about you children's health.

So you want to improve your Children's Health. Now what do you do? You may need to ask the question, what are your kids eating?

According to a recent study, most kids consume 25% of their calories from junk food. Kids say that french fries are vegetables and were found to be the number one vegetable source. You may also find interesting that soft drink consumption has doubled, as most 8 year olds consume soft drinks every single day with the phosphorous in these beverages leaching calcium out of bones, and hot dogs, cookies, and sweetened beverages are among the top ten foods consumed by infants and toddlers ages four through twenty-four months. We need to take a look into the childhood obesity problem and help our children's health.

Most kids don't eat the way we would like them to eat. If you have a picky eater, it is especially hard to get all of the vitamins, minerals and other important nutrients they need to help their bodies flourish in this world of not so good food. Processed foods or junk foods are mostly artificial ingredients, unhealthy fats, and refined sugars that have empty calories, are stripped of their nutrients, and provide no nutritional value to your children's health.

Children's nutrition is the foundation of your children's health to help their growing bodies get what they need. If possible, choosing organic, fresh, and whole food ingredients provides children of all ages with the nutrients they need for proper development, growth, and optimal health.

Starting with breastfeeding through solid food consumption and into adulthood, we have a lifetime of eating choices ahead of us we need to start early with the best children's nutrition available. The list below shows the stages of brain development and the importance of an early, healthy, nutritional diet for your child:

  • From birth through age 3, children will develop 75% of their brain during this very crucial time and it depends heavily on the baby's nutritional intake.
  • After the age of 2, your child's diet should be moderately low in fat to avoid the development of childhood obesity, heart disease, and other health problems down the road.
  • By age 5, kids will have completed 90% of their brain development
  • Between the ages of 11 and 16, a major growth spurt occurs with significant weight gain and muscle growth.

The easiest way to guarantee that your children's nutrition is up to par and they are getting the proper nutrition their growing body needs is to start them early on a high quality natural health supplement for children. Taking a natural health supplement for children is not a freebie to eating an unhealthy diet, so continue to offer healthy food choices to your kids.

Children's Health Nutrition is a great place to start in helping parents get the information they need to make an informed decision about their children's Health. T. Rewerts also shares how you can improve your health and the health of your child with a Customized Nutrition Program starting today!

Vital Nutrition For Children

Vital Nutrition For Children

According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, 80% of children do not eat the recommended number of servings of fruits and vegetables. This is no surprise. According to the CDCP only 14% of adults eat the daily recommended servings of fruit and vegetables. Parents have the fiduciary responsibility to maintain a healthy food plan for the family. Parents step up and do what is right for your child and yourself. It is easier than you think.

Many experts concur that besides iron and calcium, additional nutrients commonly missing from children's food plan include vitamins A, B, C, and E as well as the minerals: zinc, chromium, selenium and potassium. Studies reveal that children with the best nutritional support do better on IQ tests as well as behaviorally than children with inferior nutrition food plans.

Studies also reveal that 15 to 19% of girls and 52% of boys do not receive enough calcium from their food plan. About 25% of American teens are deficient in vitamin D that facilitates calcium absorption; yet, 90% of bone mass is laid down by age 17.

Children age 2 - 6 need three servings of vegetables and two servings of fruit daily.
Children age 7 - adults need four servings of vegetables and three servings of fruit daily.
Active teen boys and adult men need five servings of vegetables and four servings of fruit daily.

What counts as a serving? Use the following guidelines:

Vegetable Group
• 1 cup raw leafy vegetables
• 1/2 cup other vegetables cooked or raw
• 3/4 cup vegetable juice

Fruit Group:
• 1 medium apple, orange, pear, banana
• 1/2 chopped, cooked or canned fruit (non-fructose syrup)
• 3/4 cup fruit juice

What to do? In view of inadequate fruit and vegetable consumption and nutritionally inadequate fruits and vegetables, children need multivitamins. Pharmaceutical multivitamins are sugar laden and artificially colored synthetic ingredients with little nutritional value. The best multivitamins are European tradition of delicious nutritious liquid vitamins and minerals from organic plants, fruits and vegetables.

Given the use of GMO (Genetically modified organisms) and pesticides used on produce in the U.S., than ever before, organic fruits and vegetables are mandatory. Multivitamins need to include carrots, fiber, rose hips, watercress, horsetail, nettle and spinach, which are rich in carotenes and minerals. Mild digestive herbs, such as: chamomile and peppermint is recommended to support healthy digestion and appetite. Calcium, magnesium, phosphorous and vitamin D for bone health is necessary. Orange juice, orange peel and pear juice for bioflavonoids that aid in vision and immune health. A small amount of honey or maple syrup can be used for sweetness. Multivitamins need to include vitamins A, B, C D, E. Vitamin A is critical for immune health mucous membrane function, the first line of defense against infection.

There is no better health insurance for children and adults than a natural organic food plan, multiple vitamins and minerals. Sometimes, it is difficult to entice children to consume natural food products because they are not as intensely flavored or visually exciting as the synthetically sweetened and colored variety. Not to mention pharmaceutical companies blast commercials every twenty minutes on TV programs children are 'allowed' to watch. Thus, the indoctrination to eat the chewable sweet synthetic vitamins is ever present. However, as the manager of your child's life and health, you need to set the boundary and keep it. There are many healthy natural vitamins without the sugar that children like. Do the research and set the stage for your child's healthy food and vitamin plan.

In addition to your child having better health; visits to the doctor and the inherent expense will decrease. Healthy nutrition in childhood is a life long win/win.

Bon appetite.

Pay Attention to Child Nutrition

Pay Attention to Child Nutrition

What a child eats, is what will determine his health in his childhood as well as in the later years of his life. Since childhood is the age of growth, the body requires lots of essential nutrients for healthy growth of bones and muscles of the body. It is the first fifteen years of life, that will determine the child's health for the rest of his life. Not only will this result in a healthy buildup of the child, but good nutrition in the early years of life will also prevent sickness and will help the body fight against the diseases in future life.

It is you, the parents who will determine the type of food your child eats. To make it easier for the child to adopt healthy eating habits, you will have to make that your habit. Your child will most likely do what he sees you doing. Always remember that your nutrition will have an impact on your child's nutrition. Make sure that you take three meals a day, at their proper times, and make your child sit with you. While you and your child eat the same thing, explain to him the health benefits of the food that both of you are eating. This will encourage the child to eat healthy food and avoid junk foods, that are of no good.

So, what should your child's nutrition actually consist of? Taking a look at the food pyramid, and encouraging your child to eat fresh fruits and green vegetables is beneficial. Try to prepare a meal that consists of all the classes of food. For instance, having a glass of milk, or juice with cereals and fresh fruits can be a perfect breakfast, and then having some pulses with vegetables for lunch, along with a dinner consisting of meat and rice, can serve to be a perfect nutritious diet for the day. Try to look around for some good nutritional recipes, so that your child enjoys the food he eats.

Giving your child the option to pick the food he wants to eat is also good. This way you could get to know whether your child is inclined towards unhealthy meals or healthy ones. If you instill in your child the love for healthy meals in his childhood, then in later life, if he gets a choice between burger and platter with some rice and vegetables, he would definitely choose the latter option.

Last, but not the least, do not be impatient. Your desired results could never be achieved in a day or two or a week, and not even a month. Be patient. It may take a few years for your child to adopt healthy eating habits. Since new food items keep on being introduced that are more tempting to children, your child is more likely to get attracted to them. Give him some time, and keep doing your work of feeding the child healthy food, and explaining him the nutritional benefits, along with telling him the negatives about the unhealthy foods, that seem to be more tempting.

Getting Kids Involved in Nutrition Early

Getting Kids Involved in Nutrition Early

Last year when many schools around the country implemented new school lunch guidelines, the move sparked protest among students and the movement got off to a rocky start.

Children resoundingly rejected the new menus, forcing many school districts, Los Angeles Unified School District included, to re-evaluate their implementation plans.

The difficulties and issues school districts are facing with school lunches, however, run much deeper than just picky eaters. If a school district wants to instill a healthy lifestyle in students, they must implement nutrition plans that educate beyond the lunchroom.

Children must be taught health and nutrition at a young age, and then these plans must be executed throughout their educational career.

An example of one school doing this is Mark Twain Middle School in Los Angeles. They use a school garden as a catalyst for learning in various subjects like math and history, while using the food grown in the garden for school lunches.

This has led the Los Angeles school board to vote to expand nutrition education to be integrated into the curriculum.

"We have a sacred obligation to make sure we do everything in our power to raise the quality of our nutritional content," Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) board member Steve Zimmer said to The Los Angeles Times.

While they may not need to be as extensive as Mark Twain Middle School, other school districts must follow LAUSD's example if they want their new school lunch plans to have a lasting effect on children.

In addition to implementing nutrition programs into the curriculum, other measures can be taken.

Deborah Lewison-Grant and Carolyn Cohen, Co-Founders of FoodFight, an organization dedicated to raising health and nutrition awareness in schools, explained that teachers should set the example.

"We can't expect students to make healthy choices (either in or out of school) while the adults in their learning communities are plunking down sugary drinks, chips and candy bars on their desks and ignoring conventional wisdom about eating well balanced meals," Lewison-Grant and Cohen wrote in a blog post.

They continued, explaining that, however, teachers themselves must be educated in nutrition as well.

"At the same time, we can't expect teachers to act as role models for their students without giving them the knowledge they need to make healthier eating and buying decisions and supporting their own health and wellness needs," Lewison-Grant and Cohen wrote.

Ultimately, a combination of example and education is the only way to truly get children to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Just giving kids a new menu won't cut it, because they just won't eat.

Kids Nutrition: Healthy Lunch Ideas For Kids

Kids Nutrition: Healthy Lunch Ideas For Kids

Kids are very active; therefore, they need foods that will provide them with high energy. Since you need your children to be healthy, you should feed them healthy foods. To help you out, here are some of the best lunch foods that you can give your kids:

Cold pasta

Pasta doesn't have to be warm to taste good. The best way of going about it is packing pasta salad with extra vegetables to your children. If you are pressed for time, you should purchase pre-made pasta salad or pasta salad mix from your local grocery store. You should also buy a bag of frozen vegetables.

You should heat the vegetables, mix them with the pasta salad and put the mixture in a good container. If you have bell peppers, you should mix them with your pasta and they will be great for your kid.

Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches

When you serve these two on a toast they make an excellent meal for your child. The good side with the foods is that they need to be tweaked a little bit in order to make them more interesting. One of the ways of making the food more interesting is by using two whole-wheat or multigrain waffles instead of the traditional toast.

You should also use a fresh banana, strawberry slices or an apple instead of jelly which tends to contain a lot of sugar. Instead of using jam, you should use crushed pineapple.

Chicken fingers

You should make your own chicken fingers by slicing up a hormone-free, boneless, and skinless chicken breast. You should then dip each piece of meat in egg whites diluted with water and roll them in bread crumbs.

You should then sprinkle them with salt and pepper, and bake them in a shallow pan. For an extra zip, you should add fresh minced garlic to the bread crumbs. Finally, you should dip them in low-fat ranch or barbecue sauce.

Eggs

The good side with eggs is that they are cheap and versatile. For example, you can make an omelet by beating one egg and frying it in a pan with a slice of cream cheese. You can also make an egg salad by boiling the eggs and chopping them into small pieces and adding mayonnaise. You should serve the salad on bread or with fresh cut vegetables.

Conclusion

These are some of the best foods that you can give your child during lunch. Although, it's good to give your child healthy foods, you should not spend a lot of your money on it.

If you want to raise healthy kids and you are unsure of the right foods to give them, you should highly consider visiting our website. This is because we have great information on kids nutrition. The information will be of great help to you.

Importance Of Nutrition For Children & Parents

Importance Of Nutrition For Children & Parents

They are beautiful, energetic, entertaining and they continually teach us as they grow and learn. Who are they? Your children, and second to the gift of life, the next greatest gift you can give them is good health through nutrition. As they grow you will realise that, try as you might, you won't be able to protect them from every bad influence in this world. You may have heard of first time parents who frantically sterilise everyone and everything that comes within a 10 mile radius of their baby, only to find their bundle of joy trying to eat dirt in the garden. What is within the parents control is the nutrition of their children at home and the education on food which they will take with them to the outside world.

A parent's role in their child's nutrition begins much earlier than most think. First and foremost know that we are what we eat, so be mindful of who you choose to have children with on all levels. Most of us understand the effects of hereditary illness, but foods and pollutants that a parent carry can cause damage to their children.

Three months of preconception care should be observed by both parents, it has been said that the soul of a child is here three months prior to conception. To help fertility and general well being, alcohol, tobacco, pollutants and stress should be avoided and vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids and exercise increased. If these practises, as well as prayer, mediation, reading or relaxation time (if you enjoy these things) can be established before the child is born, they will become a part of your life and something you can always do as a family. There are also herbs that can be taken by the mother before during and after pregnancy to help stabilise her hormones and therefore avoid pre natal depression or severe mood swings. For example, Raspberry leaf tea helps fertility in both parents and is helpful to the mother throughout the pregnancy from easing morning sickness to the waters breaking. (ALWAYS check that herbs and essential oils are safe for use during pregnancy.)

In the first 3 months of pregnancy, all of the Childs organs are formed, so the mother should very carefully modify their diet to help this crucial stage and continue thereafter. Remember, 9 months of poor eating could lead to years of suffering for your child. If you do decide to give up damaging foods, do so gradually to avoid illness or bad reactions. Meats are now packed with chemicals and steroids, cigarettes contain thousands of chemical, salt and sugar cause any health problems and the resulting self inflicted problems will reduce the nutrients passed to your child. These are definitely foods you should consider cutting out or reducing. Vegetarian or vegan diets are normally advisable, but as everyone is different, if this diet produces too many bad effects, change it accordingly.

Breastfeeding is recommended as it's linked to intelligence due to high levels of essential fatty acids in the milk, which also contains antibodies, vitamins, minerals and pure water. But it is effected by the mother's nutrition so feed both of you well. There is a strong link to childhood diabetes resulting from allergies to the protein in cow's milk and also beef, which affects the pancreas. Breastfeeding mothers are advised by paediatricians to avoid drink cow's milk and eating beef for this reason. Be cautious with soy milk also as it has been linked to cancer.

Don't think child minders, nursery and school teachers are qualified to make health decisions for your children. You are responsible for your child's health and never think you're being a difficult parent if you specify what you want your child to eat or more importantly not eat. Find out what school dinners consist of and if you don't agree with them, make packed lunches or request alternative meals be put on the menus (there's no harm in asking).

Our parents had the excuse of little knowledge of good health while we were younger, this information age should be seen as a legacy in this respect and a chance to link back to our ancestors ways of health and living, 12yr old in ancient Tamare learnt degree level information with ease, our food on it.

Is lack of time stopping you? By teaching your child good nutritional habits and the benefits of good food, they can be involved in their health and older or matured children can make their own pack lunches. If you can't deciding what to make them, teach them enough and they can tell you what they want. Let them make up weird and wonderful recipes (details aren't important) and help them make them. This will make their food interesting to them and your life easier. If you can initially feed them good foods that taste good, they will remember enjoying good foods and ask for them again. Most of our childhood memories of good foods were as punishments and bad foods were treats, children can be fluent in their own anatomy and the effects of reverse that mindset in our children, let them turn their noses up to fast foods and look forward to fresh fruit salad. Don't allow the media to tell your children what to like, make them be proud of the ways you teach them to eat and live. Four out of seven days healthy eating initially will give great results initially.

Financial constraints are there because cheap foods are normally bad foods and high prices are put on health. However, once your children know what they like, find health food wholesalers, bulk prices are surprisingly reasonable saving you weekly shopping time and money.

Become your child health care practitioner. Pay attention to their urine colour, dark strong odoured urine signals more water, to flush the system and improve concentration and may indicate other more serious problems. If skin rashes appear and you suspect a certain food, remove it from their diet and see if it goes. If you notice your children get clingy or sluggish after large meals, they may have an over worked bowel, struggling to digest a back log of food. Let them snack on fresh fruit and vegetables; this will give them fibre to help unblock their system, vitamins, minerals and fresh water (especially if it's organic). Sugar should always be avoided as it has no real use except to cause damage. Refined carbohydrates (white bread, flour, sugar, pasta etc) only give a quick burst of energy but aren't filling so our children are eating too much. They have hardly any nutritional value and no fibre which all lead to obesity. Whole foods (wholegrain rice, raw fruit and vegetable, lentils, beans, nuts, seeds, seaweeds etc) provide longer lasting energy, fibres, protein and essential oils which all build beautiful children with healthy organs and alert brains.

Consult nutrition consultants, homeopaths, herbalist and allergy testing centres before making and appointment with your GP, see the money as an investment for you to learn about your child's health, pay attention and get them to explain everything. The more you learn, the more you can teach your children. They will become your doctors, as every good student surpasses their teacher, and we can create a healthier generation, who will enjoy nutritional freedom from common industrialized illnesses and diseases

Good Health Through Good Nutrition in Children

Good Health Through Good Nutrition in Children

Nutrition plays an incredible role in a child's learning process and his development. It decides how healthy the child will be when he or she becomes an adult. Even though experts unanimously agree that kids should get their nutritional requirements from a healthy and balanced diet, unfortunately, many children do not eat such a diet on a regular basis leading to deficiency-related medical issues. In such cases, nutritional supplements give the missing ingredients of the diet.

Who Needs Dietary Supplements?

Normally growing children do not necessarily need extra nutritional supplements. Despite that many young children are picky eaters, it does not necessarily mean that they have nutritional deficiencies. Regular meals and snacks give all the vitamins and minerals that growing children need. However, doctors recommend supplements for finicky eaters who do not eat regular and well-balanced meals cooked from whole, fresh foods. Kids who have certain medical conditions such as respiratory and digestive problems may need to supplement their diet. Very active kids who play physically demanding games and sports would be better off by supplementation. Strict vegetarians may need an iron supplement, while dairy-free diet that is deficient in calcium will need this mineral supplementation. Children who consume fast foods and processed foods as well as carbonated drinks that leach out vitamins and minerals from the body, need supplementation with the required nutrients.

Dietary Supplementation to Prevent Childhood Deficiencies

The idealistic approach to kids' nutrition of a well-balanced and nutritious diet may not always be realistic. Hence, childhood deficiencies may occur, which could be overcome with the help of nutritional supplements. Supplementing the diet with cod liver oil is necessary to give adequate amounts of omega-3 fatty acids for good brain development in children. Probiotics play a vital role in our bodies by preventing the growth of harmful organisms in the digestive tract, thus resulting in a healthy digestive system. This indirectly translates into good overall health. Good quality multivitamins and trace minerals, though not required in very large quantities, are necessary for the general physical and mental wellbeing. Some studies have stressed on importance of adequate amounts of vitamin K in the body for proper blood clotting. Insufficient amounts of vitamin D in the body may negatively affect many body systems ranging from brain and immune health to cardiovascular and musculoskeletal health.

Safe Dietary Supplementation for Children

The safety and effectiveness of many of the herbal medicines and dietary supplements may still not been tested on children, making it all the more imperative that these products could be used only under medical supervision. This is because some supplements may interfere with medications that the child is already taking. Even though multivitamins are not recommended for children who eat a balanced diet, doctors recommend this for fussy eaters who do not consume a varied diet. However, large dose of vitamins or megavitamins are not recommended for kids. Excessive amounts of fat-soluble vitamins, A, D, E and K may prove toxic for kids.

How Our Nutrition Affects The Way We Spend Time With Our Kids

How Our Nutrition Affects The Way We Spend Time With Our Kids

It is a beautiful day outside. The sun is shining, the weather is nice and cozy, and you can hear the birds singing in their safe resident at the nearby treetop. It is the perfect weather for a day at the park, so, you pack your bags and your kids and you make your way to the nearest lawn yards with all the needed accessories. You have your baseball glove and ball, in case your son wants to play catch, you have your string, in case your daughter wants to play cat's cradle, you have a piece of wooden stick, in case your dog wants to play fetch and you have your fingers to function as an imaginary pistol, in case you want to play dead.

Because there is nothing more exhausting than a day in the park with your family. When it was just you and your wife, going on a picnic was a great romantic gesture. You used to grab a basket, stuff it with fat French cheese, bread and wine (don't forget the wine), and you would lie on a blanket, ignoring the world surrounding you, occasionally throwing a piece of wood to get rid of the damn dog for a few seconds, so you can cuddle without him sticking his wet nose to your chin.

Then the first kid came along, and everything was great, and still is, and you love him more than life itself, but going on a romantic picnic is no longer an option, because the cute little bundle of joy learned how to crawl, and then walk, and then run, and he just never stop, and there is nothing you can do about it, because, let's face it, he will never sit still when you really need those five minutes rest, so you have to run after him, so he wouldn't fall or step on some dog's poop, or even worse. So you are bound to play with him, rather than read that book you always wanted, but the problem is that you are not getting any younger, and you are getting tired quicker than you used to.

And then the little girl came bursting into your life. And oh, how much you love her, your daddy's little princess that can melt your heart with a single smile, and break it into pieces when she cry. And though she does deserve all the attention she can get, and nothing can make you happier than giving her this attention, you sometimes feel too old and tired for this intensive activities, and all you can think of is laying your head for a few minutes, just to gather some strength and you'll be right back on your feet. And you actually believe this lie when you whisper it in your mind, but let's face it, all the fat cheese and French bread and wine and butter and burgers and fries and let us not forget the beers, are here to take their toll, and you have nothing to do but pay the price.

Or is it so? Is it really a one way ticket to the blue? Do you really have to feel so old and tired when you try to enjoy some quality time with your kids? Do you really have to feel every muscle in your body after just five minutes of physical exercise? Are you bound to suffer exhaustion and old feeling in an early age?

I guess you know the answer by now. So, how can we reverse the wheels of time? How can we lose our extra weight and be the young selves we remember we ought to be, if not for ourselves than for our kids?

Start by taking control on what you eat. Let go of this hot, delicious pastrami sandwich, swimming in mayonnaise and grilled cheese, throw away this bloody steak and magical mashed potatoes that hold within them more butter than potatoes and taste like heaven itself. Because if heaven is what you seek, this is exactly the food you need to eat to get there long before your time.

It doesn't mean you should stop enjoying a good meal, and live of lettuce and bean sprouts and rye bread and an occasional walnut when you feel that you deserve a special treat. If you would only look, you could easily find thousands of surprisingly tasty healthy recipes that will compensate you for the loss of your beloved carbohydrates and fat and delicious cholesterol.

Just give it a try, and who knows, maybe you will gather back the lost fitness and be the father you really want to be, enjoying a day in the park with the kids without falling apart after two minutes of workout.

Grocery Tips to Enhance Kids Nutrition and Health

Grocery Tips to Enhance Kids Nutrition and Health

Modern busy parenting can easily end up compromising the nutritional needs of children yet kids need proper nutrition considering that they are still growing both in body and mind. It is, however, of great importance for every parent to take care of children nutritionally by ensuring that they eat healthy meals at all times. The secret to healthy kids is as simple as:

  • Serving more whole foods and reducing processed foods
  • Eating more vegetables and fruits with every meal and
  • Serving children lean, healthy protein whenever possible

To achieve this, you need to be keen to your grocery list. When you give more attention to the foods that you buy, you will find it very easy to maintain healthy kids nutrition all the time. When shopping at the grocery store, choose foods with:

Fiber - apart from filling up kids to keep snacking at bay, fiber is also very important for digestion, boosting heart health, controlling blood sugar levels and also weight management. Dried beans, fresh vegetables, seeds and nuts, soybeans and whole grain cereals are some of the best choices that you can make. Whole wheat bread, crackers, tortillas and blend pastas will also work great for kids.

Potassium - enough potassium is essential for kids in terms of muscle function, water balance and nervous system. The best sources for the mineral include bananas, avocados, artichokes, papayas, orange juice and leafy green vegetables like broccoli, Swiss chard and beet greens. Cantaloupes, prunes, clams, fish, tomatoes and nuts such as peanuts, brazil nuts, almonds and soy nuts are also rich in potassium.

Protein - it is very important for healthy kids' growth and will definitely keep weight issues at bay. You can get the best lean protein from fish, lean meat, eggs, skinless poultry, yogurt, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds.

Healthy fats - fat is important in diet, but it is also very important to make sure that you don't end up adding too much. Some fat types are definitely better compared to others. For instance, young children and babies require omega-3 fatty acids for proper healthy brain development. The fats can be found in fatty fish like mackerel, herring, tuna, salmon and anchovies. They can also be enjoyed in nuts, eggs, olive oil, ground flaxseed, canola oil and seeds.

If you must buy processed foods, always take the time to read the labels. The nutritional facts can help greatly in the right choice of items with those containing low sugar, sodium and saturated fats being good for children. If you have a need to take your children out for a meal, then choose healthy kids meals at restaurants. Fortunately, there are numerous restaurants that offer healthy balanced meals that you can choose for your children, even when eating out to keep them healthy.

Whenever possible, however, it is best that you prepare your kids meals from scratch. This way, you will be sure of every ingredient and even the amount of cooking oil that you use to ensure they get only the best.

Healthy kids rise from healthy meals and healthy eating. Since they are young and not very wise when it comes to foods, it is up to parents to focus on their nutrition and to offer them the best from an early stage.
